Fundraising and Donations
The club
costs of excess of £20000 per year to run. The club aims to raise a
minimum of £5000 from sponsorship, £5000 from grants, £5000 from the
profit from the shinty lottery and £5000 from fundraising and donations.
Play
shinty lotto Newtonmore Camanachd Club run a 3 number lottery
that is drawn every week at one of four locations round the village.
Tickets are on sale in a number of locations in Dalwhinnie, Laggan and
Newtonmore including Dalwhinnie garage, The Monadliath Hotel, the Laggan
Country House hotel, Grants garage Newtonmore, the Glen Hotel, the
Braeriach Hotel, the Balavil Hotel and the Golf Club Newtonmore. In
addition to that a number of people sell tickets at the industrial
estate and in some houses and residential facilities.
The draw
takes place on a Saturday with the minimum prize fund being £200. If the
draw is not won the prize increases by £100 each week until it reaches
£1000 and it is then drawn till it is won. Each week there is a
consolation prize of a bottle of whisky.

Fundraising
events
February
open day and more Come to the club on the last Saturday in February,
enjoy the entertainment and find out the various ways you can support
the club by sponsorship, donations and through other fundraising
events. In the evening come to a concert by Davie Holt which is being
put on to launch the shinty CD he is doing in collaboration with the
shinty club. 50% of the sale price of all CDs comes to the club.
Highland
games Saturday 4h August Some of the shinty players will be taking
part in the Creag Dhu hill race. Guess the combined times that they take
to complete the course and win one of the prizes on offer.
Shinty
Family day Over 400 people joined us in 2006. This year it is on
Sunday 5th August and apart from the Folk music, beer tent,
BBQ, slow cycle race, beat the goalie, hardest hit competition there are
also competitions for all ages for longest hit, keepy uppy and longest
shy. Entry to this fun-packed extravaganza is only £3.
Shinty
sale and lots more This year it is on Saturday 1st
December. We are looking for donations of home baking, bric a brac,
venison, books etc. The events start at noon with a special lunch funded
and cooked by Anisa Caine who donates all the income to the club. Then
the sale starts at 2pm and you have to get their early to get the
choicest cuts of venison and the delicious home baking.
Other
events
Each year the players get involved in something during the year usually
in cooperation with another community group. Keep your eye on the local
press and look out for the posters.
