Training
Rik
Hamilton
Rik was invited to
join the management team at the Eilan in 2006 having completed
24 years in the Royal marines. During his service Rik saw active
service in the Falklands, Ulster, the Balkans, Afganistan and
Iraq – now in a 9-5 ‘Civvy’ job he says he has to work for a
living.
Maintaining a good
standard of physical fitness has always been uppermost in Rik’s
day to day business, therefore transferring some of the skills
learnt whilst in the Marines over to the Newtonmore Shinty Team
has been seamless. The characters found within NCC mirrir those
found in a Royal Marines organisation and for Rik it is a
pleasure to work with Brick and the lads. |

Resident in Newtonmore since 2002 this is the first opportunity fir
Rik to be at home with his family. “For my wife the novelty may wear
off and she will be happy to see me disappear off to the Eilan on a
Saturday – Newtonmore Camanachd Club has a proud history – to be part
of an organisation with such a reputation is simply an honour.
First and foremost the training must be enjoyable and there are
certain balances to be struck. I think weachieve the former evidenced
by the levels of attendances and enthusiasm on display during training
sessions. The latter is more of an ongoing process of fine tuning our
approach to training where our bedrock is the individual’s physical
fitness. From there – confidence develops in parallel with a greater
depth of technical and tactical knowledge. Newtonmore is a young side
with strength in depth and as the lads gain experience with every
game, tempered with a structured training programme their skills,
knowledge and maturity are continually improving.
